For gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2024, the École nationale d'administration publique (ENAP), in collaboration with the Office of the Auditor General of Mali (BVG-Mali), presented a webinar on implementing a public policy evaluation culture at BVG-Mali

The panel brought together expert practitioners from BVG-Mali and ENAP to discuss the issues, challenges, and best practices in establishing a culture of public policy evaluation for the socio-economic transformation of Mali.

The evaluation of public policies is essential for better decision-making that meets the needs of populations undergoing socioeconomic transformation in West Africa. To successfully achieve this transformation, institutionalizing the evaluation of policies and programs becomes crucial at all levels of public administration under the leadership of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs).

In collaboration with ENAP, BVG-Mali has implemented several initiatives to establish a culture of evaluation at the institutional level. These initiatives include the production of a manual and a guide for public policy evaluation, developing data collection and analysis tools for evaluating complex public policies in the social and health sectors, conducting impact evaluations of major public policies, and enhancing the evaluation skills of BVG experts.

During the gLOCAL event, the panel shared lessons and insights gained from the process of institutionalizing evaluation in Mali. The invited speakers included BVG-Mali Secretary General Abdoul Aziz Aguissa, BVG-Mali Auditor and Head of Evaluation Drissa Mamadou Coulibaly, and ENAP Advisor for International Affairs Aref Ben Abdallah.
