Supporting the next generation of evaluation professionals is an important part of GEI’s mission. Young and emerging evaluators (YEEs) have an important role to play in strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) ecosystems in developing countries that support the use of evidence.  YEEs inspire the evaluation and development agenda based on their lived experiences, ask new and creative questions, suggest and adopt innovative methods and adapt M&E knowledge to local conditions.

The GEI Network is excited to support the upcoming the 5-day “Youth in Evaluation Week” being convened by the Eval4Action advocacy campaign, its regional partners, Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation, the EvalYouth Global Network and UNFPA (both EvalYouth and UNFPA are GEI partners). The event aims to be an inclusive and intergenerational gathering of YEEs and the global evaluation community, focusing on advancing the meaningful engagement of youth in evaluation. It will be held April 24-28, 2023.

The Youth in Evaluation Manifesto, launched in May 2022, has been adopted by many GEI Network partners . Overall, 110 organizations and close to 400 individuals have committed to engaging YEEs meaningfully in all stages of evaluation. To support the delivery of the manifesto, six stakeholder groups (international agencies, governments, VOPEs, academia, youth organizations, private sector and NGOs) are co-creating standards on enhancing meaningful youth engagement in evaluation. These standards will provide a roadmap to step up the practice and accountability towards engaging youth in evaluation. The event builds on the momentum created by the Youth in Evaluation initiative, to further expand commitments and partnerships on advancing youth in evaluation.

Please find more information on the event in the related concept note.
