In response to the growing need to bolster national capacities in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), Burundi has embarked on a strategic effort to enhance its national evaluation system to better address current challenges.

To support the Government of Burundi, the Center for Learning on Evaluation and Results for Francophone Africa (CLEAR-FA), in partnership with UNICEF Burundi, initiated a training program designed to equip national stakeholders with the skills necessary to evaluate public programs and policies more effectively. Senior officials from various ministries, representatives from public organizations, and other key stakeholders participated in the training held in October 2024.

Aligned with the priorities of the UNICEF-Government of Burundi Cooperation Program (CPD 2024-2027), the training initiative aimed to address the need for robust evaluation tools and methodologies. The use of rapid evaluations and evaluative reviews has been identified as a key approach to generating reliable data, enabling evidence-based decision-making, and fostering continuous improvement in program delivery.

As an implementing partner of the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI), CLEAR-FA supports African countries in institutionalizing the monitoring and evaluation of programs, policies, and projects. The training initiative in Burundi is part of a broader strategy to professionalize evaluative practices and support the growing demand for expertise and tools to improve public policy effectiveness across West Africa.
