From Reporting to Decision-making: How Digital Technologies are Evolving Data Utilization to Enable Better Decisions

Sobre el evento

Over the last few years, an evolution in the way that humanitarian and development organizations are utilizing their data for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) has emerged. Traditionally, M&E activities have primarily focused on accountability - reporting back to donors what was achieved with the funds provided. But the focus of M&E activities is now shifting towards utilizing data to make more strategic decisions. Thanks to the democratization of sophisticated data management capabilities brought about by new, low-cost digital technologies, more organizations are now empowered to go beyond collecting data for donor-centric reporting and into more complex data analysis that unlocks the insights that inform the important decisions about how programs should be run.

This panel discussion will explore the ways in which this evolution is taking place from the perspectives of M&E practitioners working in a wide range of humanitarian and development contexts. Some themes that we will be covering include:
• The practical impacts of the improvement in digital technology on data utilization at various levels in the organization
• How digital technologies are giving rise to more useful information products
• How organizations are using digital technologies to better coordinate data utilization across stakeholders
• How new digital technologies are influencing the way that knowledge is generated, preserved and disseminated

The panel will be hosted by BeDataDriven, the company developing the ActivityInfo platform, an information management solution for M&E, humanitarian coordination and case management.
