Embedding Innovative Tools in Concurrent Monitoring Framework: Learnings from SCALE programme of Magic Bus India Foundation

Presentation

About the Event

Magic Bus India Foundation (MBIF) aims to tackle the twin problems of unemployment and poverty. For MBIF, this fight begins at school. Magic Bus enriches children and youth in the age group of 12 – 18 with life skills and livelihoods to help transform them into responsible adults. Since 1999, it has touched more than 1 million children across 22 states in 1363 schools in India.

MBIF is implementing the SCALE program with the aim of inculcating life skills among vulnerable children in grades 6 – 10 . The program ensures the educational attainment of children, delay the age of marriage, and enhance school regularity through developing life skills with an overarching theme of promoting gender sensitivity and equality. The SCALE program is a teacher-led program, with school teachers delivering life skills sessions. MBIF through its School Support Officer (SSO), last-mile delivery field staff, provide handholding, mentoring and training to teachers on life skills. SCALE program is currently being implemented in the state of Maharashtra and Mizoram.

The SCALE programme has a well-structured M&E system, including periodic evaluations and technology enabled MIS. To capture the qualitative insights and journey of achieving outcomes, Magic Bus has developed various innovative tools. This presentation will elaborate on the experiences and learnings from the key three innovative tools that are used, namely:

1) Behaviour Management System (BMS): BMS basically intends to inculcate positive behaviour among students through positive reinforcement mechanisms.
2) Child Transformation Tracker (C2T): C2T tracks a child’s progress over a period of time by observing them at close range at different points of contact. It tracks across 14 specific items and is based on a tool developed by the Victoria State Government.
3) School Progress Tracker (SPT): It is a tracker developed for the school level with comprehensive indicators.
