Evaluation Education: Building a cadre of professionals for a post-pandemic Caribbean

About the Event

This panel will discuss the range of academic education and training resources available in the Caribbean region and the extent to which they are working to meet the needs of the discipline, and influence public policy in a post COVID world. Course lecturers will describe the courses they teach, and discuss the roles they expect regional graduates to play in Caribbean transformation. Participants will also hear from Dr. Michael Scriven about the importance of evaluation as a transdiscipline and also the findings on thrust of evaluation education among universities in Africa based on a study from the CLEAR Initiative.

Dr Maria Gomes Lecturer Dr Gomes lectures in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a doctorate in Social Work from Howard University, Washington DC, and prides herself in teaching the art and science of social work.
Dr Jerome Lisle Lecturer Prof. De Lisle is the Director, School of Education, St. Augustine, the first candidate to complete his doctorate at the School of Education (then the Faculty of Education). His multivariate mixed methods thesis investigated the work environment of secondary school teachers in Trinidad and Tobago
Dr Nadini Persaud Lecturer in M&E A lecturer in evaluation in the Department of Management Studies, UWI, Cave Hill, Barbados since 2007, Dr Persaud has served as the Program Coordinator of the M.Sc. Project Management and Evaluation from 2009-2016. Her research focuses on promoting and building evaluation culture in the region.
Dr. Michael Scriven Lecturer in Evaluation Dr. Scriven's research fields include evaluation, philosophy of science, and computers. His 50 years of teaching have encompassed all these areas, however he is most renowned for his contributions to the field of Evaluation, including its very definition and characterisation as a transdiscipline.
Dr. Candice Morkel Acting Director/Senior Lecturer Dr Morkel has over 20 years’ experience in government, academia and the non-profit sector, specialising in M&E, social policy and public sector governance. She has conducted or contributed to numerous policy and programme performance reviews, and is well experienced in curriculum development.
Dr Arlene Bailey Senior research Fellow/Lecturer Arlene is a Senior Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), UWI. She teaches Research Methods, and has been involved in teaching M&E. Her research focus includes information and communication technologies (ICTs) and sustainable development.
