About the Event

As part of the gLocal Evaluation Week, the UNDP IEO is organizing a webinar to share the Tool, lessons from the pilots in three countries, and invites evaluation stakeholders to join in and share their experiences as well.

Public policy evaluation helps to determine the merits, achievements, and limits of national policies and programmes, of what governments choose to do or not to do. They have the potential to inform the actions of the government and enable policymakers to act as responsibly and efficiently as possible. The 2030 Agenda calls for a systematic follow-up and review of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Country-led evaluations constitute a key element in this process and strengthening national evaluation capacities assumes importance more than before. The performance management of SDGs underscores the challenges that remain in national evaluation capacities and the need for developing national evaluation frameworks and strengthening the linkages between evaluation and public policy processes.
Responding to the demand for national evaluation capacity development, the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) developed an Online Self-assessment Tool for National evaluation diagnostics and options for strategizing.
The Tool enables:
• Unpacking of national evaluation requirements through a series of steps to assess key evaluation bottlenecks and specific needs;
• Determining pathways and parameters for strengthening national evaluation or sectoral evaluation;
• Outlining action points to be considered in developing a country’s evaluation framework.
