Strategies for strengthening usability of data generated by m-health applications

Palestra

About the Event

It is widely recognized that reliable and timely health information is an essential foundation of public health action and health systems strengthening. The advent of information and communication technology (ICT), in particular mobile-based applications (or mhealth), has facilitated large-scale digitization of health information at the point of service delivery.

CLEAR/J-PAL South Asia leverages the experience and work done by researchers in designing and implementing an m-health application to collect high frequency data on routine immunization services in the context of a large-scale randomized evaluation to develop a conceptual framework to assess the design and utility of m-health applications from a data use for decision-making lens. In this session, the speakers will present key learnings from the evaluation and then apply this framework to two government-run applications - ANM-Online and Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluation (PICME) and discuss the challenges and suggestions for strengthening these systems to enhance the quality and usability of the data for decision-making.
