Monitoring and Evaluation of Gender Mainstreaming: Lessons Learned and Challenges

About the Event
Addressing gender inequality has been recognized as crucial towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as gender intersects with every other major social problem. In
response, the global development community has been looking for ways to address this cross-cutting issue by mainstreaming gender in their interventions. However, this has imposed challenges from the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) point of view. As frequently, development projects add activities related to gender without realizing a proper gender analysis or including indicators to follow its outcomes, limiting its effects on gender inequality reduction and generation of knowledge.
By bringing together evaluators, practitioners, and civil society experts, this panel will focus on the challenges and lessons learned from mainstreaming gender in development projects in Latin America with a focus on M&E. The panel will highlight lessons learned from mainstreaming gender that allow to monitor and evaluate results with practical examples from the region. The panel will contribute to
broadening the understanding of improving gender mainstreaming M&E to address gender inequality.
