Challenges, Learnings and Adaptations: Innovative Methods to Learn from Innovative Programs

讲座

About the Event

The Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MPSRLM) initiated a two-year Gender Justice Program (GJP) in collaboration with ANANDI aimed to integrate gender within MPSRLM’s institutions to advance rural women’s rights and entitlements. GJP was one of the four gender pilots as part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission’s (DAY-NRLM) SWAYAM (Strengthening Women’s Institutions for Agency and Empowerment) initiative supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), with IWWAGE (Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy) as an umbrella coordination and learning partner. As a knowledge partner, ICRW documented the program processes and learnings using qualitative primary research. However, all research activities had to be adapted to telephonic/online mode owing to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

In this session, the audience will learn about the key adaptations that had to be made to ensure that the research methods yielded data that helped in getting in-depth insights. Additionally, the team also had to ensure that the ethical commitments are not compromised. While there were challenges related to data collection remotely that a detailed mitigation plan helped in navigating, the method also had certain advantages that the team leveraged.

The team will also share the key learnings that emerged from the GJP’s holistic approach to integrating gender within the DAY-NRLM at the systemic level (policy change through Gender Mainstreaming), the institutional level (making institutions gender responsive through Institutional Strengthening) and the individual level (creating a cadre of strong women community leaders through Feminist Leadership Development). During this session, the audience will learn What worked and what else could be done to strengthen the program.
