Leaving no one behind: Examples of adaptive learning using evaluative work in reaching vulnerable populations during COVID-19 by the UN in Eastern and Sothern Africa

About the Event

The purpose of this session is to exchange ideas to make positive use of evaluations and leverage the value of evaluative work during (and post) COVID-19. The United Nations Network for Evaluation in Eastern and Southern Africa (UNNEESA) will share examples of evaluative work undertaken by its UN member agencies in reaching vulnerable populations in Africa during COVID-19, as well as embedding adaptive learning from adding evaluations to the COVID-19 response. The session will provide space for discussion between participants and presenters.

Mona Lee Evaluation and Knowledge Management Specialist Mona has seven years of experience in research and evaluation (R&E). She currently serves in the Eastern and Southern Africa region for children’s rights, and previously specialized in community-based and participatory R&E with and for people with HIV, hepatitis C and drug use in Canada.
Ricardo Furman Senior M&E Officer Ricardo has 30+ years of experience in M&E, currently responsible for ILO evaluations in Africa. His M&E experience focused on child labour, forced labour, social forestry, economic development, health, education, rural development, and other areas in Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia.
Nikki Zimmerman Regional Evaluation Officer Nikki has over 12 years of experience in M&E and learning, currently supporting and overseeing WFP evaluations in Eastern Africa. In the past, she has worked across a range of sectors in both humanitarian and development contexts in Africa, Middle East, Latin American and the Caribbean.
Carole Tronchet Pradhan Evaluation Specialist Carole has sixteen years of experience in M&E, counting twelve of the years with UNICEF offices in South Asia, Caribbean and Eastern and Southern Africa regions. M&E experience focuses on community-based approaches to advance the rights of children, adolescents, and very marginalized groups.
Uyen Kim Huynh Innovation Specialist Uyen Kim Huynh, PhD is an Innovation Specialist at UNICEF Evaluation Office. She has extensive experience in conducting impact evaluations in low-income countries. She previously served as the Assistant Director of Policy of Center of Sustainable Development at Columbia University.
